Eco-friendly Fashion at its Best: Indigo Summer 2015 – Feelgood Style

Eco-friendly fashion for summer

While there’s no doubt eco-friendly fashion is a growing movement, it can still be a challenge to find eco-conscious clothing. Hopefully this changes in summer 2015, with the launch of Indigo clothing’s Statement Collection.

The brand just launched a killer Kickstarter campaign to raise funds for its summer collection. And the pieces basically encompass the ideal summer wardrobe: crochet tops, light flowing skirts, and colorful bikinis.

In keeping with the slow fashion movement, the designer at Indigo’s reigns handmade all of the brand’s pieces up to this point, and even did her own samples for this summer’s collection. Pretty impressive!

The brand’s eco-friendly fashion mindset led all of the clothes to be made of organic materials without any toxic or animal-derived dyes. Maybe it’s my inner hippie coming out, but just looking at this campaign makes me want to hit the beach in a crochet crop top, a flowy skirt, and a flower headband!

One of my favorite attributes of the pieces is how easily they go from day to night. It’s not only convenient, but it’s a more eco-conscious way to do things; instead of buying more clothes, Indigo aims to help you get more use out of the clothes you’ve already got in your closet!

After skimming through their Kickstart page, I noticed something else interesting. They use fabric derived from bamboo! Bamboo is used in a lot of eco-friendly clothes and accessories because it’s light, comfortable, and helps regulate body temperature. Basically, it’s perfect for those hot summer beach days!

Another benefit is the quality- all of the pieces are Made in the USA, which makes for a better and more eco-friendly product since the items weren’t shipped from overseas. Also, sweatshops aren’t an issue!

And while a lot of brands have been making efforts to reduce the amount of waste they produce, Indigo’s record is pretty much squeaky-clean in this regard. The label has discarded less than three pounds of fabric waste in the past two years! They do this by working with other designers to recycle their leftover fabric scraps.

But one of the most noteworthy things about Indigo is its commitment to slow fashion. Slow fashion is ingrained in every aspect of its manufacturing. All of the pieces are even hand-dyed!
